A type of welding known as manual welding involves joining two pieces of steel together with a welding rod that is clamped into a holder. Due to the distinctive buzzing sound that the welder emits when it is turned on, it is also known as stick welding and a buzz box. The welder melts and fuses the steel together with either AC (alternating current) or DC (direct current) electricity.

A coating of flux covers a welding rod. As the rod is burned into the steel gap between the two pieces, this coating melts. This transition makes a protecting gas to support the obligation of the two prepares.
